A little manipulative at times, but the characters are so endearing (especially the kid) and the dialogue so spot-on that the series becomes genuinely enjoyable.
And then there is Travis Fimmel (yes, Ragnar from Vikings) with that otherworldly stare, as the enigmatic stepfather! Perfect for a personal quest that blends dark humor and raw emotion.
